Heater blower
Hi all
I just went to start my 85 Carrera and what a hell sound came from the engine bay. No p the engine was not running yet, I stated it and that is ok, but the sound was still there. Found out it is the heater blower. Unplugged it sound went away. So it looks as a Bering has gone tit's up. Is it posable to lube the Bering ? Thanks Steve. |

The electric blower motor for the heat is probably on its way out. See if you can buy a replacement, or sometimes you can have them rewound/refurbished. Grainger also sells small motors like this if you find that an OEM replacement would be cost prohibitive.

Marine bilge blowers are a cheap replacement. Mine have been working well.

Yes, you could take it apart and try to lube it, if you are handy like that.
Since it is squeeling, that means it is not frozen, lucky. Take it apart and see. It may just need a brass bushing and some grease/lube. If replacing, on my '85 the Grainger motor did not work optimally. it would give me heat but due to it's lower amperage, it would not trigger the foot blower motors properly. I had to jimmy it to get them to work and only one speed. If you replace it replace with a known good used motor or OEM spec replacement from out host. If you want to gamble with a Grainger, I have one cheap, $20+S&H, PM me. Jim

Just repacked the bushings in mine last week. It took all of 2 hours, start to finish. I am replacing all my heater hoses with Scat tubing while I'm in there. If it is just dry, like mine it will usually work if you pull apart and use some white lithium grease on the bushing on both end.
Be sure to clean the armature and brush holders with some contact clean as the dust from the brushes can contaminate the lube. If brushes are more than 1/2 warm may consider replacing. Mine were OK, so I left them alone. I found a good write up on here with photos. Search "heater motor". Let me know if you can't find it, I have the link at home.
