Wheels, Bumper, and a Tach do not make a RUF replica, or yellow bird recreation as is stated in the listing. I think it is a great looking car, but no way it is worth even close to $75k..... IMHO

If they really recreated the engine layout in the rear that would be major $$$ just from the changes you would have to make in the car to get it to fit. Remember that the intercoolers on the Yellowbird were in the wheelwells.

It quite possibly cost $75k to build, but most people won't pay a seller for the labor charges that were part of that number. Though you never know. There's lots of checkbook builders out there and if someone is considering building a car like this they might prefer to just write one check now instead of 20 checks over the next year to two years...

What he has in it has ZERO relevence. What it is worth to some buyer has some, but what it is worth to you is the only number you should consider. It is often said that a "remodel" to other than stock will get the seller the cost of the remodel, and he gives the car away.

Scrolled down to the bottom of the ad and there is a picture of the engine...

Compare that with the engine from a real CTR:

Look how the intercoolers hang out into the wheel wells. That required a lot of hacking on the stock frame.

In other words:
It is a nice Carrera Turbo with wheels, body kit and emblems attached...

Price out a promotive turbo - price out turbo brakes. Price out a 43,000 mile G-50 carrera.

Price out real RUF wheels, bumpers, tach, etc.

Now add the labor to put it all together. My guess is you'll probably come close to the $75K figure.

Would I pay $75K for that car? Nope - no way. And I would not pay $250K (or so) for a real yellowbird either.

My guess is that car may reach mid 40's - and that's only if it strikes a chord with two folks that bid it up.

Q. How do you have a "Yellowbird replica" without the signature NACA ducts in the rear fenders?

A. When it doesn't have the authentic fender-mounted intercoolers either.

(replica fail)

I agree that this is a failed replica, but not for the lack of NACA ducts. The NACA ducts were only used on the prototype cars if memory serves. They were removed because they were in a low pressure area and were not driving any more air to the intercoolers......

Actually, I believe Elois' CTR (the one and only Yellowbird) was the only one which had the intakes in the wheel wells as pictured above. After additional R&D, it was found that it didn't have much impact on the performance and so the intercoolers were modified as such:

This setup is even more slick if you ask me!

The real Yellowbird had wider rear flares, different mirrors, shaved rain gutters and an integrated cage. This is just an '87 911 with an aftermarket turbo, big brakes and bumpers. So let's see, my white 86 has similar bumpers but in fiberglass, RSR Bilsteins, nice cage and seats. If I add an $8,000 turbo to mine, could I get $75K for it? Yea, right.

Very cool car. I believe it would cost more than $75k to professionally build and sort......

Protomotive is a pretty good engine modifier if i'm not mistaken. They build pretty high HP conversions in a really reliable way. Better than....dare I even utter.....coughrufcough. Did I say that? I take it back...PLEASE forgive me, I didn't really mean it!
I love it. I would buy it. I'm stupid though.

The Ebay ads calls this a yellowbird "tribute car".
Not a clone or replica.
I know.....it's just a matter of semantics.

A "tribute car" is supposed to somewhat resemble the original car in both looks and performance, but doesn't have to be an exact replica.
I think this car fits the bill for that.

Looks like a clean, well done car at any rate, that certainly has a lot of money invested in it.

Is it worth $75k?
Only the person that actually pays that amount can say....
I am sure this dealer (Exotic Classics) is asking a premium for it at this time.

Nice car though.....IMHO.

For $75k the paint should match. The bumpers, rear spoiler and maybe the rocker covers are a different shade of white. Still a nice car, though.

the same you have an RS replica without a 2.7 mfi motor...... it is a replica not a direct copy...

To me if you're gonna do a Yellowbird tribute or replica at least paint the car yellow. In my book the yellow is a big part of paying tribute to Yellowbird. I'm just saying...
