Toasted Ring Gear?
Is this ring gear history? Teeth are generally in good shape except for the corner wear shown here. I was about to send it in to be resurfaced when I noticed this. It came out of 67T with a relatively new Bosch starter and no starting issues. Unfortunately the ring gear is integral to the flywheel on the 67's so the only option is replacing the whole unit. Thanks for your opinion.

Is that wear or is it cut that way? there is lots of meat on the ring for the starter to engage to. New ones I have seen do not have that "cut" on them but the price is around 5-6 hundred bucks! I would try to use this one but keep checking with the experts.

It is definitely wear. Some teeth have almost no wear and some are really indented - up to 2mm from the top surface of the flywheel. The most worn areas are the places the starter hits first when it engages. I am inclined to get it machined and run it. According to spec, it is permissible to knock 1.2mm off this top surface.
