Soon to be (hopefully) new Porsche owner - wheels question

I have put down a deposit on this car, subject to a PPI from my mechanic.
The car is fully original (1986 3.2 Carrera), other than the wheels.

I don't mind them as is, but if I opted to go for an original Fuchs set of wheels, how hard are they to track down (say 16x7's & 8's). Also, are wheels easy to ship from the US if I can't source them where I am ?

Also, what do you guys think of the rims ?

Doesn't look too bad, but Fuchs would be better.
Good luck with the buy, I hope it turns out ok.
Welcome.

My thoughts exactly. I can live with them for now, but eventually will get some original wheels. I got the car at a good price, and I know one prospective buyer walked due to the wheels. I wasn't going to let the wheels worry me too much since the rest of the car is immaculate.

I like the wheels and the car. I don't think you'll have much problem selling them when you are ready. Be sure to get the size/et/part numbers and post them in the ad. Those will be the first questions asked.

Welcome to Pelican!!

if you go with the factory size fuchs they aren't that expensive to get. if you go with larger sizes for the rear, it can cost. thanks what i'm toying with on mine.

I personally don't like too many after market wheels on a 911, but yours aren't too bad. I wouldn't feel the need to drive with a bad over my head...LOL ...as others have said drive her and keep a look out for some Fuchs, no rush.

Just keep it and make sure more important issues are taken care of first, then as a bonus get the Newly Made 17" or 18" Fuchs, that will come out later this year hopefully.

It is always easy to spend other people's money from the couch.

Very nice car! I like the wheels but since the car is all original i would do 16" Fuchs. You can keep both sets and just switch them up once in awhile.

I don't think the wheels look bad but they are sort of a distraction from the rest of the car. I'd put them on my 'to do' list and enjoy driving the car in the meantime. Wait a bit and make sure nothing else more pressing comes up. I also have my eye on the 17" Fuchs that I keep hearing about.

Not sure - my budget will probably what they cost if I find a decent set.
I might set the Fuch's for a 12 month plan.

I think you're getting sound advice to in regards to the wheels. They're not bad, but not truly wonderful either. But wheels are one of the easiest things to change on your car, so if the car pans out mechanically, and you end up owning it, you'll have plenty of time to replace the current wheels with something else, and can keep driving it while you're looking. That's not a bad scenario in my book. My '75 came with decent cookies (which I still own), but I did end up picking up some Fuchs when I saw a deal that worked for me.

Looks like a nice car, good luck!

What kind of Fuchs? I think polished would look horrible, you have no chrome or polish on your car.
Maybe all black Fuchs would look cool or maybe just have the outer lips on those existing rims changed to black?

Those are actually nice looking rims if they were all black. They look good as is too.
I'd keep em as is or change the outer lips.
No need to buy new ones.

The wheels are not all that bad and they kind of mimic stock Fuchs with the black centres.
There were a couple of sets of Alton Fuchs for sale lately in the parts forum. If you are going to spend the money, the small amount extra to get 17s and 7&8" wheels would be worth it.
Nice looking car, good luck with it!

I would always lean towards the fuchs. But like you said, the current wheels aren't super bad looking. Personally if I was going to keep them I would paint the centers silver.

wow, looks great

as for wheels...drive it for now, keep your eyes open and change at some point... this is a journey, slow down and enjoy the trip more than the destination

I like the wheels, but Fuch's do set the 911 off. Here are a couple of Fuch ads from EBAY:

PORSCHE 16" Fuchs fuch wheels 16 x 7 & 9 Turbo 930 SC - eBay (item 130487396450 end time Mar-17-11 22:33:27 PDT)

16" 7/8" Black Fuchs Wheels for Porsche 911 944 NEW - eBay (item 200574018958 end time Apr-08-11 10:43:58 PDT)

The second set are replica, but if you're on a budget.......
