License plate security screws
Anyone use these? My p-cars stay inside at night, but the do go outside, and I lost a front plate last summer on the 911. The plate was gone, but my bracket and screws were on the ground neatly under the bumper.
I looked in the Pelican catalog and didn't see anything. What works for our cars?

Try McMaster-Carr. Search for "security bolts". How about a pin-in-torx or pin-in-hex?

Most Manny, Moe and Jack's have them. I had a set....took the 911 to have paint at the asshats lost the key. Memo, next time take the plate off and keep the stuff.
Vanity plates....some DMVs will not re-issue the plate if stolen. Lost is another matter.

No, classic plates. But I doubt they cared. We have a sizable problem where I live with people stealing plates, registration and insurance cards from cars.

McMaster-Carr "Security Screws". Only problem is that you have to buy 25... but they are under $10...

Most plate thieves don't carry Torx.

Security screws
Being cheap and diabolical at the same time, I use 4 different types of fasteners. Phillips screw, flat screw, hex bolt and allen head bolt. Not impossible to beat, but makes it easier to go on to another vehicle!

Perfect. I have three cars, so I'll only have one extra.

Yes they do. That's why I cut mine with a cross down the centers making it darn near impossible for them to get them off...

Yep, best defense is to cross cut them with a single edged razor. Don't stack them over an old sticker, too easy to peel off.

Had a sticker taken last year from my other car. With the 'new and improved' plate law in Denver area, I can't get historical plates for my '78 SC, but I can do that. I also have clear covers, thin black metal frames and torx screws on my plates. |

My Pep-boys sells the screws with a hex head similar to torx and it also comes with a little tool. It might send the thieves elsewhere

For most of us, all we do is add a current registration decal every year.
I use regular M6 Allen socket-head cap screws and steel lock-nuts. I fill the hex with putty (Play Dough will do) after installation. Attaching the bracket to the body, I leave regular hardware. You can unscrew with an open-end wrench and patience. The goal is to make the casual thief go elsewhere but have the dedicated thief not damage my car (just prior to his demise ![]() Best, Grady

I use these on tamper resistant applications.
Requires a spanner wrench to remove. ![]() |

Where did you get those spanner screws? Are they stainless?
