What happens if...

I have a set of SSI's with oxygen sensor connection under my MY72 2.4E . What would happen if I leave the hole open? Would it improve sound or destroy the SSI?

It would shoot soot up onto the underside of your car and d. side valve cover. Not sure I'd want that kind of heat in that area.

It would sound like you have an exhaust leak.

quiet down the pipes but will make for a hell of an oil leak.
