73 t timing and dwell query
73t timing and dwell questions my older analog dwell meter reads 55. I have rechecked the points on the bosch distributer which are set at .016. The book says 36 +-3. Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong? Also, my 2.4 mfi engine idles faster when the timing is advanced. Why? The vacuum advance works ok.

My 73 runs very well at the 36 setting.....Did you make sure your meter was on the six cylinder setting and not the 8 cylinder?

The vacuum advance is not an advance, its retards the idle spark for emissions.

If you are happy with your dwell meter settings and its accuracy I would set the points to give the correct dwell reading and be less concerned about the actual gap. Thats assuming it runs well. What does the gap need to be to get 36 degrees?
