Post Can't get 993 distributor out ????

I took the nut off holding the 993 twin distribuor in but although the dist body shifts in it's bore I can't get the thing out ! I tried for 2hrs: Tried starting the car to change it's gear location and still can't get the dit out although it always exhbits slop when the nut is off (of course). I need to get the twin dist out to send to Steve for a belt rebuild. Also, can't get the lower dist cap off ! Luckily I managed to get the top dist cap off but had to break the blot head of one of the Philips locking screW. Then I was able to see the rotor for marking it's location (purposes). However, can't get the dist out !!! HELP !!!! What am I missing ??

I know there is vacumn holding the dist in there but can it be that much of an air tight seal ???

Go to www.p-car.com

There are step by step instructions for this as well as many other DIY's for a 993. It is a great site.

Hello

Try that links:

http://p-car.com/diy/distributor/distributor.htm

http://lightning.prohosting.com/~datamen/distibutorbelt.htm

The distributors do come hard. Fill the gap with some WD 40 to soften the O ring. Keep a new O ring on hand.

I like your idea of washing the shaft o-ring area in WD40, I'll try that in the morning. many thanks. Not sure though if the gap I have to work with is large enough for me to get an WD40 down the distributor shaft. I can wiggle the dist shaft to the left+right a bit but no movement upward whatsoever.

Hello

Just some drops that will flow down to the now hardend O ring. Will soften it a bit and also oil will help on pulling.

Don´t forget the drive will move the distributor out off mark while you pull it.

Reinsert the distributor later with the same offset. If not you will be some 15° away.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've had my 964 distributor out before so I'm ok getting it back in. One thing I'm doing though in is use different long cap lock bolts that have a deep seat Allen female rather than the stock new cap's problemtaic Phillips head bolts. The new cap bolts are easily removed and then just install the newer Allen head type. Can't imagine why this hasn't been done at the Bosche factory already. Is there anyone out there who HASN"T had problem getting at least one (usally the hard to get lower cap's Phillips located near the air duct) Phillips cap bolts out ???
