I OWN A 1988 PORSCHE 930. THE CAR TURNS OVER BUT IS NOT CRANKING.IF I KEEP TURNIG THE ENGINE OVER AFTER A WHILE THE CAR WILL START. WHEN I STOP AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF,I HAVE NO PROBLEM RESTARTING THE CAR.I THOUGTH MY PROBLEM WAS THE FUEL ACCUMALATOR.SO I REPLACED THE FUEL ACCUMALATOR THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT AFTER REPLACING THE ACCUMALATOR I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.SO COULD I HAVE A BAD FUEL PUMP? YOU SHOW WHERE THE FRONT PUMP IS LOCATED BUT NOT THE REAR ONE. The fuel accumulator works in conjunction with a check valve located within the fuel pump. If this valve is faulty, then the car will have difficulty starting, particularly when it's hot. You might want to investigate the pump as a potential issue here.

Hopefully its just the check valve. I replaced mine but to avail. Now I'm sure its the acummulator.

Can the check valve be replaced separately from the fuel pump? I saw (what looks like) a fuel pump near the steering rack. Is that the only one?

I read the thread "Sticky for common answers..." and it doesn't mention the check valve. I also searched and read a few other articles, and didn't see any examples. Also, I searched on Pelican for the part, and didn't find a check valve for my car. I have a 1981 911 SC Euro (3.0L CIS). Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like ware has a cold-start problem since he has no problem restarting hot.
Does a '88 930 have CIS? If so, I'd check out AAR, AAV, TTS, CSV and WUR? |
All the 930's had CIS, yes.

Sure does sounds like a Cold Start Valve problem.
When I accidentally disconnected my CSV a few years ago, it was incredibily hard to start until I reconnected it. |

Residual fuel pressure.......
Check the residual pressure and start from here. Beside from the typical problem with the FP check valve and leaking FA causing low residual pressure, a leaking fuel distributor's relief valve could also contribute to this problem. Test and confirm.

Fuel pressure, CHT and WUR are cold start issues. Check valve is usually hot start.
