2.8 RSR Evocation - the begin of the end

We have just one life................. and it's like i want to begin my narrative.

I make the presentation, My Name is Christophe , I'm french (so please excuses the lot of mistake i will do in my narrative).

It's a long time i read all your post and especially the post for réplica RS , RSR ....

Jack Olsen is one of my inspirer, but lots of another fellow too, cnielsen, edesign45, jjwood.

Special salutation for my friend Bill in Washington with is wide body conversion, (when you want for another French BBQ In France)

I be back, to my history so like i said, We have just one single life and it is very short, then it is necessary to take pleasure and realize our dream.

My first dream of Porsche I live it three years ago by the purchase of Froggy, a beautiful yellow 2.7 (who came from USA)

begin after a beautiful 2.7 Grey Atlas, this change of color having make debate in French forum in his time..

A big work had been made with change of some parts of sheet steel, complete cleaning of

the inside but some gaps existed which will be erased this time this.

Memories:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/2971/ima45h.jpg

and finally i have driving with "My Porsche"

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/3497/froggy.jpg

Nevertheless my dream was not complete, I continued to dream about the icone, about the 2.8RSR.

The real? Let us forget, less than 50 produced copies, astronomical price...

The replica, the evocation , to be able to roll little as in the real ..........

For it were needed some things:

A base, a few money, time, the courage, and the stomac to launch the project.

I had everything, but I had especially a dilemma, it was necessary to sell "Froggy" to buy one new base.

But "Froggy" I knew her, I knew what I left. A new base, I would have been able to Met by unpleasant surprises.

Then the decision fell, I would leave "Froggy", and thus on January 1st, 2011, I begin the Project.

This project will spend lots month or years, i will work by stage, the first the Look,

second all Rolling train and brake, third the engine

Remain to buy:

I don't speak about all nights on the internet, to create my price data sheet, for every part. To scrutinize "le bon coin" French announcement website,
or Ebay in search of the second-hand part which would allow to reduce the bill.
The long nights of study on such or such part, the type of seat.....

tof2.7 03-31-2011 04:26 AM

But it was also necessary to begin the dismantling.

http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7994/img4572l.jpg

http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/4295/img4571j.jpg

Then sell parts, to complete the stake of departure for the purchase of the new parts.

Quite slowly I accumulated parts.

And during this time I realize the secondary works.

Some light works of body, parts not made during the first restoration
But which will be made decently this time.

RWebb 04-15-2011 12:22 PM

trés bien!

merci

Walt Fricke 04-15-2011 09:20 PM

OK, Randy

How do you get ze french accent marks, as in over the e in tres, in posts to Pelican? Nice touch, and I'd like to be able to show off my rusty German by using umlauts (though I can show off my scholarship by just inserting the e that the umlaut stands for).

I tried to send a private message, but your PM inbox is overflowing I was told.

I symphathize with Christophe when it comes to drilling holes in stainless steel.

Walt

RWebb 04-15-2011 09:42 PM

I have no idea, so I just stole it from Andre 3.0, above!

Flieger 04-15-2011 10:35 PM

If I want to type umlauts, I use Microsoft Word, with the insert character tool, or my special custom keys I have set up for them. Then I copy and paste into the post window.

tof2.7 04-17-2011 11:41 PM

thanks walt for your symphatie, when i drill ;)

Well this weekend some buying in Castorama Shop (your home depot) and animaland (Pet shop):

A piece of wire netting, a stainless mess tin for big dog and two black leather dog Leash, very well-made.

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/6774/achatcasto.jpg

But why to make?

Let us begin with the wire netting:

Let us start again by the front bumper in which I had already made an unrefined cut for the cooling of front radiator

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4382/chocav2.jpg

I finished first of all the cut of the opening

http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/8381/chocav4.jpg

Creation of a size

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6638/chocav5.jpg

Cut of the plate

http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/3713/chocav6.jpg

with the size and marks with orange adhesive tape, folding session

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/4145/chocav7.jpg

Organized for check

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1490/chocav8.jpg

tof2.7 04-17-2011 11:41 PM

Then drilling the fixation holes inside thus invisible in the final.

http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/4594/chocav9.jpg

For front bumper, the next stage, filling in some place, adjustment on the car, the fixation and then painting.

Well for the stainless mess tin and the two dog Leash, two indications:

AlexJ 04-18-2011 12:25 AM

Sorry, did you say RSR replica...? That's not the correct front bumber...

tof2.7 04-18-2011 12:33 AM

why?

this is a picture of a real RSR

http://www.titchati.be/porsche/Pics/...eville-195.jpg

it's the same !

AlexJ 04-18-2011 03:07 AM

That is from a 2.7 RS narrow body... but I can be wrong... I am being honest, have never seen a bumper like that on a original 2.8 RSR.

But, keep the good work! Congrats!

tof2.7 04-18-2011 03:17 AM

Alex

i take information on this website 1973 RSRs... Photo Gallery by slidevalve911rsr at pbase.com

and i think the 2.8 rsr is this

thanks for support

Jeff964 04-18-2011 07:14 AM

Actually, that is the RSR version, but many people use it on RS replicas. The RSR was the only one with the center oil cooler so they had the opening. The RS just homologated the bumper fiberglass so with no oil cooler there they just left the air dam blocked off. It looks weird, and I like the RSR much better.

The RSR version is also made to work with the wider RSR flares, but many companies now make RSR open mouth bumpers to fit narrower RS width front flares.

tof2.7 04-18-2011 10:56 PM

yes flieger

Mine come from this car , it's an second hand because the owner have change the look of the car and have buying a ST front Bumper.

http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/6649/sansd10.jpg

and he have wider flares, the look seems like mine when it was finish.

tof2.7 05-09-2011 12:41 AM

so after some week end and a completed week, just for my two children and my lovely wife, i be back now and i have begin to work .....

I had prepared the necessary tools for a quality work.

And I prepare me to work and think after this day no possible come back!

But if you're crazy .............. you're crazy

Prepare the work on the back crossbar

http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/5...0507160120.jpg

And then cut........................

http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/3...0507162152.jpg

without the crossbar the bumper go in better........

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3...0507165526.jpg

After have been made the hand on the crossbar let us going in serious things.

At first position the future wings!

http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/5...0507172241.jpg

To draw line ............. may draw a second line to 3 cms of the first for final adjustment.

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/352...0507170316.jpg

And now the result of the love of an electric pair of shears and one 911.

http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/5...0507172215.jpg

Then put back Froggy on these new wheels

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/582...0507181634.jpg

Then reassembly of the exhaust, the ducktail and presentationof the bumper "to see"!
