Less brakes, more gas!
|
Its a device you plug into your car (newer) and it tells you how broke you will be after fixing what is wrong

I'm also looking for a PIWIS tester. The quote from Porsche directly is approximately 22-25K and there is a 500-1000 dollar monthly fee for the pleasure of being able to use the branded unit. The monthly fee is the really irritating part. 6-12 grand a year is a lot of scratch, especially for the shop I work at where the work is mostly on older cars.
So far I've found an aftermarket unit by a Hong Kong company called Onlyda Technologies for 4K US. Has anyone ever heard of them or purchased a product from them? Has anyone found a trustworthy US source for this gear? I'll gladly pay more if I know it is the real deal.

The specific job that currently needs doing is programming of the alarm unit on a 2003 twin turbo Carrera. If the PST can do the job I'd be happy with that for sure. Do you have a good source for PST or PST2 units? I'm wary of Chinese junk, but at that price point it is attractive. A more trustworthy alternative would be a very good thing.

PM me for details. Sprint. |

I can help with a PST-2 - contact me if you are interested. The PST-2 works on 964 (with special adapter), 993, 996, 997, Boxter, Carera GT, and Cayenne. The newer CAN-bus cars (Cayman, Panamera) require the PIWIS.

Is the Durametric system not an option?

I think the Durametric system is an addition since it does cover more of the modern cars as far as I remember but lacks some of the required functions for the older cars. You really want both the PST2 and the Durametric to cover most of what is thrown at you in a shop if you don't want to shell out the $$$ for the PIWIS

Durametric covers back to the 964 with the correct adapter.

I haven't checked on the Durametric website recently but from what I remember it was lacking some of the more advanced functions such as coding alarm units and cloning DME control units. But you are correct in that it covers most of the scanning and code read-out functions of DME. The issue is that the other control units are not covered as well as the DME.
Durametric has a very detailed table explaining what functions are covered for each generatioon. Maybe a good idea to check to make sure it does what you are looking for. They are frequently issuing SW updates to increase their feature set. That is another good thing.

So the old Bosch hammer at $8k was.....what...... too cheap?
And the Germans wonder why the Japanese are kicking A$$ in the auto industry...... German cars are high priced to buy....pricklish to fix...and you get it stuffed up the kiester to find alternate diagnostic tools....as if normal OBD readers aren't enough....sheesh. Reminds me of the goofy 944 cam belt tensioner "tester".....a "regular" and generic belt tightening measuring device "vas not good enuff".....had to buy a spendy Porsche or Bosch piece specific to this task. One needs to ask....why?.....its simply a cogged belt drive.
