Sachs (Boge) vs. Bilstein Shocks

It is time to replace the front and rear original Boge shocks on my 1982 911sc. I have two questions.

(1) I do not take this vehicle to the track, it is driven entirely on the city streets & highways. So the most important thing to me is a comfortable (touring) ride. Now the current ride seems to be "loose" but this may be because the current shocks are 30+ years old... So based on this would you recommend going back with the Sachs (Boge) originals or change to the Bilstein (HD)?

(2) If I stick with the Sachs (Boge) originals, do I need to add oil the strut housing like the originals had? If so, how much?

I switched from Boge to Bilstein HDs. Don't need to add any oil.

The change was pretty dramatic, but my Boge's were completely shot. Replacing the shocks, plus setting proper stance is well worth the $ and effort.

A little while back, I went from a shot set of Boge/Sachs to Bilstein HD's. The green Bilsteins have exceptional rebound damping and have transformed my car, especially under braking. The supple ride and steady body control on rough roads is phenomenal, allowing relaxed driving at surprising velocities.

Changing over to Bilsteins Was one of the noticeably better changes I made to my car. Also they have a lifetime warranty. I had about 120,000 miles on them when I rebuilt my susp. I sent them out to bilstein and one of the fronts was slightly out of spec and they replaced both free of charge. The rears came back according to bilstein perfect! I still have the rear shocks on with now 142,000 miles and still feel fine.

bilsteins it a good choice and you dont have to add oïl but for myself do prefert koni they are ajustable .

New shocks of ANY brand will transform a car when comparing them to the old worn out ones.

Boge shocks are good and are just fine for a street driven car where ultimate performance is not important. When I replaced the shocks on my '88, that's what I used. They don't feel appreciably different than the Bilsteins I had on my '86.

"Loose" sounds more like bushings and tie rod ends, have these all been replaced? If so I have no preference in a street car.. If not, address the suspension itself along with the shocks.
