Alcantera dash complete
Here is a quick pic of the dash I had done by Joe at JPM coachworks.
This is going in a 73 with RSR body and full cage. I like this look against a stark interior, which is why I requested he hide any stitching. I'm thrilled. The dash was a mess before he began. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1302467348.jpg |

Not sure about seating longevity, other than a lot of high end interiors are coming with Alcantara material. Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo....you name it.

Here are some pictures of my Alcantara seats. Alcantara weighs less than leather but costs more. Alcantara also is more difficult to install.

Sharp seats! Love the piping. How do you like them. I also love the headlight adjustment switch, we don't get those stateside with the pokey headlights that came here.

Joe at JP coachworks told me that he uses two different grades. The one he used for the dash is a bit finer than the heavier one that he uses for seats.
In my car I am doing the dash and door tops in Alcantera, and black vinyl for everything below that including the seat bolsters. I haven't decided yet if I will key the seat cushions to the dash ( Alcantera) or to the trim strip on the dash where the radio sits. If I key it to the trim strip, I may use basket weave. |

Thanks. I love Alcantara as it grips better and it adds accent but do not overuse it. Alcantara looks better as inserts.
Do not use it on large surface area as Alcantara appears to have uneven surface reflection because of its 'micro hairs'. For nice even look, gently comb the surface with soft brush. My 02. Quote:

I have loved the look of alcantera on dashboards (especially the 911 with all of its contours) I've never been the shiny leather interior type.
I agree about not overusing it, which is why I didn't do the knee pads. I like how in your first picture of your yellow car you haven't over used it. I also like on Rob's car how it hugs the heater vents. There is almost a tactile feel just looking at it. Thats what I was after around my gauge cluster. I once saw a car that was all alcantera including the roof liner, shifter etc. and I hated it. Used sparingly as an accent in any of a few of those places it looks fantastic to my eye. Even for seats, an ALL Alcantera seat does not look good to me but I DO like it on the cushions. Since I have it selected for the dash and door tops (which tie together nicely), it may be too much for my car and the look that I am after if I also use it on the seats. Yours is almost the opposite of mine in terms of where you put it, but again it is just enough and not over used. My plan is to go with what I now have and then as the car goes back together, it will tell me what it wants for seats (rather than making these selection independently and then hoping it all comes together). My biggest interior styling elements are the shiny black roll cage, offset by the alcantera dash. Everything else including the new rally seats will have to mesh with those two. Btw, I knew that I wanted an alcantera dash and roll cage even before I knew which model 911 I would eventually end up putting them in ;-) The uneven reflection is function before form. A perfect material for a non glare dash, yet one that looks like a million bucks. The best of both worlds to my eye. |
I'll second (or third) about overuse. I debated about doing more than just the dash, but my main goal was to eliminate the blue/black stock interior. Hated it. So I just covered those surfaces, and think it's a good balance. Seats and headliner would be too much.
