Whats on your project list?
I have been going strong on my Targa for the last couple of months. It looks like the economy is getting better in my region so I feel a little better spending money on my car again. Since I am married I get sh_t for spending to much on the car.So I try to spread it out. Most of my projects require $$$ so I have to decide what the priorities on the car should be.
My List: 7 and 8 are at Al Reeds for refinish $580 plus return shipping Tires 245 45 16 and 205 55 16 Toyos Have not shopped yet. Driver seat repair /recondition leather on all seats and some dye touch up. Interior is really nice and does not look to bad.$500-1500 range Trunk update/want to trim and some glue on original carpet and will cut out and trim spare tire pit so I can expose my future Fuch space saver spare set up.Have additional stock carpet for additional pieces. No $$ just waiting for my 16x6 fuch to go in to AL. Refinish 6 x16 fuch for spare (Al Reed) Around $225 with shipping both ways. Mount new OEM 16 space saver I purchased on Ebay. $30. I have been going for a mostly stock and original set up with the car. I would like to see what other project lists look like. |

Interesting lists. It's great to see so many people keeping these awesome cars on the road and the work put into them.

Pull engine, sent to Supertec for many HP, send trans to John Walker for rebuild to handle HP, street/racing 2 suspension from Elephant/Rebel. That lets me work on the body for a little while! And next week...

Brad you have a nice looking targa. If you dont mind me asking how much did you spend on your motor?
|
Thanks!
about 13k. plus 5k for EFI about a year ago. I did all the work but the machine work myself. so that saved alittle. Damn.. funny how these cars skew your $$ perception. I remember when i was 18 and I was scrounging up 1k to rebuild and hot rod a 72 beetle 1641 CC engine. Quote:

I know what you mean.I had a pretty thrashed 914.The problem now is my wife has a say so its just as slow getting the money together.
|
that's funny Brad, was thinking about a 3.2ss made out of my 3.0 like yours! maybe I will just use your pars list and order them. I just might. But I will have the trans. farmed out. You used the ITB's I might use pmo 42's. Still on the fence. In fact it looks JUST like yours, right down to the torsion bars! how is the car running? (I know the answer, perfect)!
did you go with a LSD? how is the handling? would you change anything? |

Thanks James. It is running great. Have about 15% on EFI tuning to sort out. I have a slight stumble at cruise and my cold Enrichment is still alittle off.
I will get my trans done within a few years as well. Will def farm that out. It doesnt have LSD. I dont use any oil. pulls strong. its fast. :) The area where i was really unhappy with the entire build was that I had to timesert 4 studs on the heads on the exhaust side. I know its no big deal, but i dont like that. The car has some creaks. think i need to lube my poly bronze. its been about a year. Other than that. All is good. Would love to hear more about your build. Its alot of work but very satisfying when its done. Quote:
