Need suggestions on shift adjustment and hand throttle after speedometer replacement.

I think it's just me reading too much into it, but I can't seem to understand which way I am supposed to turn the shift coupler. According to the tech article,

"c) WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, rotate the shift coupler clockwise when viewed towards the front of the car. You should be able to feel the coupler rub against the various shift stops as you rotate it back and forth. Rotate it to the furthest clockwise position, as seen when you are facing forward. Don’t pretend you are Tarzan and turn it with huge force....lightly is all that is necessary.."

"viewed towards the front of the car"??? Is my back towards the windshield or towards the back window? If towards the windshield, I understand I'll be turning it to my right. If my back is towards the back window, then it will be to my left. I've actually tried both, and can't seem to get it back to its original state.

The story is I replaced the speedometer cable on my '74 3.2/915 and in the process of doing it I removed the shift rod from the shift coupler. After having replaced everything back where I found it, the tranny grinds going from 5th to 4th. I have to skip 4th and go directly to 3rd and then to 4th in order to avoid any grinding.

Also, I had to remove the hand throttle mechanism from the throttle cable. Does anyone have a pic of how the plastic piece go on the throttle cable? Do I have to remove the hand brake cable and defroster to get the plastic piece onto the throttle cable?

Thanks in advance.

sit in the driver's seat and look out the windshield. you are now viewing towards the front of the car.

and yes, you will rotate to the right.
