Hey Pelicanites: FYI, Sears is having a President's Day sale on all their in-store tools, chests and accessories today. Basically everything is on sale. I just picked up the 318 piece mechanics set for $100 off (easier to start over than fill in the missing pieces!), and I think I'll head back and get another cabinet to store all the goodies.
If you are interested, it ends today. Don

I feel bruised and happy. Using the President's Day sale as an excuse, I remembered Wayne's list of tool suggestions in the beginning of his 101 Projects book. I'm a sucker for lists.
I started with that same basic 318-piece set. Then I decided I was enough of a grown-up now to own one of those standing tool chests. Will I ever put tools back in drawers? Sure. Of course I will. Then it occurred to me that I should get some smaller tool boxes that could fit into the confines of a 911 trunk for track days. Then the air compressors caught my eye. Why do I need an air compressor? I think it's the kind of deal where you get it, and then discover how badly you needed it. Then I realized I ought to have one of those portable compressed air tanks for the track. How about a 3 1/2 ton jack? Heck, my name is 'Jack,' add it to the list. How about a few specialty items? Wayne's right, the flexible-neck ratchet looks cool. Add it on. I remember some sort of infomercial for those goofy robo-grip things. Add it on. And on, and on, and on... I'm Craftsmaned to the gills, now. And Sears has a whole lot of my green-paper portraits of famous dead presidents. My swears-by-Snap-on brother will never be impressed, but now I've got a good excuse to remodel the garage, and I 'saved' more in one day than I'd probably spent on tools in my entire lifetime.

Wooo-hoooo!
Yeah, I went gonzo on some stuff too. You definitely "won" though! I've been waiting for a big tool reorganization project, it will be a fun week. I started to make up track sets, but, uh, I don't go to the track (yet). So I'm planning on selling the "leftovers" on eBay. Jack (or anyone) - if you want to buy my duplicate Craftsman sockets/wrenches/etc. for your "Track Set", let me know tonight before I put them up on eBay tomorrow. Jack, to see your car I'll deliver... I've got a 3 drawer cabinet top chest (26" wide), full sets of SAE 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sockets, basic set of metric sockets, combo wrenches, allen keys, etc. For Pelicanites, I'll throw in some neat blow-molded boxes to put them in. Don
