lots and lots of threads on this, even a tech article I think.

Air-Fuel-Spark

fuel pump operational? pump pressure?

do not use started fluid!!! these aren't Briggs and stratton lawnmower engines!
please, put down the starter fluid

Check for proper fuel pressure and report back (also do a search for "no start" etc. You'll find excellent checklists to work off of

Good Luck

If you use the search function choose the advanced search option. Then type in some text like "fuel flow" and isolate the search to the 964 board.

Here's one I found saying the DME relay can be a culprit.

Motor spins, won't fire

If the set up is similar to a 3.2, a malfunctioning DME relay does present itself with that symptom. (It will not turn turn the fuel pump on) Assuming other similarities (to the 3.2), other possible problems are a few sensors that are found around the engine supplying info to the DME. One of which is the one that will not allow the pump to function if the engine isn't rotating at a set rpm (ie. cranking speed). Cheers
