Question Verrrrry hot weather and aircooled P.Cars (+ 69 S)

Wonder how do P.cars behave in extreme hot weather, like 115° F or over 50 °C. (Just curious, the fact that we didn't see any Porsches in Egypt probably has nothing to do with the temperature!)

BTW remember the 1969 S I mentioned in an old thread, I'll go see her again on Saturday... got the jitters already.

Had a Belgian "oldtimer car" website giving advice to me that "it's all in the confidence" and "best is to wait for the lil' ol' man selling his never-driven car that's been stored away for a quarter century" n "there's plenty of oldtimer cars still around" .... 911 S???? Oh well. BTW, the seller did 2nd in class at Le Mans vintage 12 hours race last week, does his own wrenching... Maybe that reconditioned engine is .. very good. I'll be sure to get an expert, though. I'm aiming for max. price $20000, sorry €23272.04 (we're all in training, learning to use the Euro!).

Thumbs up

I drive my 1970 911T in hot (105) weather without any troubles. It never gets that cold in the bay area of california so that i wouldn't know about. The car is fine in traffic and at high speeds during hot days.

I do highway and around-town driving regularly in 116 degree heat. It takes a good long time for the A/C to bring the interior temp down to something bearable, but as long as you're moving you shouldn't have a problem.

I did get stuck in a traffic jam once where it was 110+ and I sat for about 45 minutes, maybe rolling at the average rate of 2 feet per minute. The temp gauge did start to head for the red zone after about 1/2 hour. I finally gave in and shut off the A/C--then the temp gauge stabilized.

Boy was my banjo cooler gurgling!

YMMV

If I'm not mistaken, the '69S was the first year for the front (right front fender) mounted radiator style air cooler. If that cooler is in still in place & functioning well, you'll be handling hot weather a LOT better that many later cars. Cooler was standard on the "S" models, optional on the T and E models.

Well, thanks for your replies, so it seems exterior temperature would not be so important as regards "air cooling" of a Porsche car. Not that the "temp" topic and the '69 S part are in any way related: right now it's raining cats 'n dogs in Belgium, temp. must be about 15C upto maybe 65F. Yuck! Went to see the '69 S, engine 6390995 chassis 119300696 color 6837-L "cocoa brown" but I see it's silver metallic, meaning re-painted, and even if looking beautiful and in very good shape, I'm not going to pay the $25000 seller wants. I'm in the market for a good Carrera 3.2 liter. To be cont'd...
