T transmission?

Someone told me that i should put a T(?) transmission on my 3.2 and it becomes a lot faster. What is this T transmission and should i change over to it?

I'm speculating that your car has a 8:31 R&P and maybe what the person is referring to is older trannies, not necessarily a T, but trannies from 72- to mid 75 with a 7:31 R&P. These will ‘awaken’ a car up, but you have to shift much faster and with a 3.2 it might be a tad too much.

More info would be helpful, do you have a US or RoW car. What tires are being used? Stock rev limit? What is the car used for?

I have a 78 sc turbo look. So I have the wider tires. It's a 3.2 from germany with a steve wing chip. The exhaust is still sc but everything else is stock 3.2

Im sorry, I have the mechanical awareness of an ape. I don't know the exact dimensions of the tires right now. But the sw chip brought the redline to 6820. Its a street car, and my primary goal is reliability and drivability. I would like something fast but it would still need to take me to work everyday without being dificult

The T transmission might be the base 4 speed rather than the optional 5 speed. Not sure how much that would help. Not sure I would trust the advice of the person who said that either.

I didn't trust him originally either but then he said that his mechanic said that, which also happens to be my mechanic, who definitely knows his stuff. He said it has 4 and 5 speed options

Pretty sure Bill needs the wheel/ tire size so he can plug the info into an app which will spit out what mph your car wil be travelling at what rpm/ etc...

Just read the tire sidewall, it will have something like 225/50 x16 or 245/45 x16 or 285/30 x18 something like that, tire ttype and size, Michelin PS2 , Dunlop Direzza etc helps too.

given what you use the car for you are 95% certain to want to keep what you have

OK if the guess that your mechanic was suggesting a 911 TS transmission to perk up the acceleration of you car is correct

here is a stock 1978 SC trans w/ the redline and tires you are using

and here is your can w/ a 1972 911T/ES transmission

The lower the speed in a gear the better the acceleration and the higher th rpm will be at cruise. So yes the car will accelerate better in any gear. The question is are you willing to pay for the increased acceleration? It can be done but it won't be a real cheap swap.
