Please post some advice or links or something. There are so many backfire issues but they seem to be fairly brief.
Reason I would like to see an ultimate thread started: I had a nasty backfire and a wrench said it was some clogged fuel lines/injectors. He "blew them out" and resolved the issue. 4 months later and the backfire has returned. My thought is to send off the injectors and have them cleaned as well as clean out the fuel injector lines. If this isn't the issue it would be great to have some checklist of what to do to start tracking down the issue.

If I understand it correctly, backfire is caused by not burned fuel getting into the (hot) exhaust system. My car backfires because the setting is too rich (waiting for a AFR meter). Love the sound though, especially after a hard acceleration in a tunnel. My boys are always waiting for the loud bang when I let my foot of the accelerator.
Happy easter! Ed

Backfiring is a topic near and dear to my heart, after replacing nearly everything in the ignition and fuel systems to try and solve an intake backfire I was experiencing. Turned out to be the fuel distributor. One cylinder was pretty well clogged, and we had to replace the whole unit with a refurbished one.

There are 2 different forms of backfire: Exhaust and Intake.
Exhaust backfire can be kind of cool depending on your mood. Intake backfire can blow up the air box on a CIS machine. So which do you have?
