Got rid of the Flag mirrors, installed something different (lots of pics)

A while back I posted this thread about mirror alternatives (Sideview Mirror Options for SC?). I ended up buying a used/never-installed set of Vitaloni Californian mirrors (Pegasus - Vitaloni Californian Mirror - Left Side)

However, I didn't like the plasticky finish of these mirrors and didn't want to drill new holes into my doors. So I bought a used set of flag mirrors for the bases and had my local body guy modify them to fit the Californian mirrors. While he was at it, he sanded and painted the rough spots on the mirrors and painted them. My requirement was to use the stock base and be able to go back to stock mirrors if I wanted to. So here are the results with a mini DIY in case anyone was curious about uninstalling flag mirrors. Comments and questions welcomed.

Ready for install

If you are going to remove the stock mirrors, you will need to cut the wiring from the mirror. I zip-tied the wires to the door so that I can easily access the wires in the future. Saves some time having to fish them from the bottom of the door.

This is the retaining bolt and hook that secures the mirror to the door. Use a 4mm hex wrench to loosen the bolt. Be careful to not unscrew the bolt entirely from the retaining hook. I made this mistake and ended up losing the damn thing in the door. I will now have to fish that sucker out.

This is what it looks like in the base. When installing, make sure the end of the bolt is threaded. It makes it a lot easier to tighten once the mirror is on the car.

On to the pics of the mirrors on the car. I considered getting 964/993-gen aero mirrors but I wanted something a little unique/different. The Californian mirrors are a bit more svelte, which I like.

That is seriously cool. No need to weld up those nasty holes. Great idea!
