Oil Sump Plate
I'm looking to replace my oil sump plate/cover. Current one is a black one that has a drain --- but it leaks.
I would like to replace with one from our host (see below), but want to get opinion/experience from others with this product. Would I be able to use this plate as a jacking point? Say if I place a hockey puck under this plate? This plate sure looks thick and strong. Anyone has experience with it? Thanks! MCD-930-107-001-00 ![]() |

What part leaks? Around the sump plug or around the plate itself? If sump plug get a new sealing washer for it. If around the plate, then take off the plate and look at it. Have years of tightening the sump plate bolts made the holes "dimple" inward? If so get a small hammer, place plate on solid, flat surface, and hammer dimpled holes flat. The round end of a ball peen hammer works well.

I would not use the sump plate to jack the car up. Either get the Rennline jack adapter for the engine or use the OEM jack points.

Rot/81SC ---
Thank you both for chiming in with your suggestions. I don't have enough history with the car to know what happened to the pate. I'm going by visual and touch inspection of the sum plate. The entire plate is "greasy" so I'm going to replace it. Hoping to replace it during my next weekend long work session ---- oil/filter change, oil hard line replacement (leaks too), spark plugs, and hopefully a valve adjustment job also. As far as "user experience" with this sump plate --- anyone have comments? Thanks! |

Yes. I have it on my SC that I am parting out and it's been great. I have no leaks on my sump.

When You put the new plate on make sure that the drain plug is not under the oil pickup

You can jack up the rear basically any place on the engine case except the sump plate
Make sure when you install the new sump plate, you use new gaskets and install them in the correct order. The order is gasket, screen, gasket, sump plate.

I also have one on my car because I overtightened the drain plug and it leaked around the plug. If you do not need a new plate this would just be a cosmetic improvement. I don't see any another benefit.

I do see oil/grease around the plug --- making the existing plate look very oily/greasy. So, perhaps the previous owner or mechanic also overtightened the drain plug

81 911SC/Tyler,
Your comment about the Rennline Engine Jack Adapter. I went to their site and can't find that. Do you have a part number or picture or something. I frequently jack from the sump plate. I put a big thick foam pad on top of my jack and up we go. If there is a better way I would like to see it.

There's room on the engine case between the steel engine mount/support console and the sump plate to fit a jack saddle with some padding on it. No reason to put the jack right on the sump plate- especially the factory stamped steel sump plate.

I just installed the one you referenced, initially had issues with the drain plug as it didn't mate perfectly to the sump plate and had to replace 5qts of fresh Brad Penn which I wasn't happy about. Anyways, took a Dremel tool and smoothed out the edges of the plug and now works great, my old sump plate did not have a drain plug so that's why I made the switch but had to question the quality. They actually sent me another sump plate kit and the replacement one still had issues with the drain plug not mating perfectly with the plate. . .

Jacking at the rear produced much discussion over the years. Check the archives.
Think weight of about 1500 lbs. sitting on the rear wheels. Now imagine applying that 1500 lbs. of force on the engine case via a 3" hockey puck. The puck doesn't change the force any more than a 12" cushion of goose down. Sherwood |
