Nice work from Bilstein
I've read on this board and in one of my magazines that Bilstein would refurbish shocks for my '82 SC. With a quick phone call they said to send them down to So Cal and they would do the refurb and call me when they're doing the work in 2 weeks after they got the shocks. They were right on time. They called to tell me what they were doing the day they were working on them. The next day they called for the funds and then they were shipped. With the shipping both ways and the work it took 3 weeks just as I expected. They look great!

Very nice indeed MtnDawg!!!
So, let me get this right. You sent your existing rear shocks in to Bilstein and they refurb'ed it? That is awesome! And they look spank'n new too! Can you share with us who to call/contact and what is the approx charge for this service? Thanks!

Looks good!
How much cheaper is it compared to new shocks?

If you have Corner Balance Specs and Weight Specs they will customize the existing struts for optimum performance. $65-75 each.

doesn't Elephant Racing do the same re-build ?
if so I'd think ER would be a better pick

I sent them to Bilstein since they are the original builder so I figured, they're best equiped to work on their own shocks. It was about 1/2 the price of buying new. If you go to Bilstein's web site you can find their service dept. I sent them to So Cal, but I think they may have a couple of different locations.

The fronts struts are worth rebuilding, not so sure about the rear. They charge $75 plus shipping both ways. Figure $90 - 100 round trip, versus $125 shipped for new. If you are doing any type of custom valving, rebuild makes perfect sense.
PS - they don't repaint and they don't replace mounting bushings. I just had my rears done. My $.02.
