Decklid light always on ?

Hello All,
I just noticed my decklid light is on when my headlights are on. Is this normal or is it supposed to only turn on when the decklid is open or the doors are open? Is there an on/off button? Sorry for the stupid question.

The car is an 84 carrera.

Thanks,
Tay

Deck Lid? engine or trunk?

Engine area will come on only when the light cover is open and parking/headlights are on or if your leave the turn signal to left position.

Trunk is switch by the doors and when trunk is open.

The engine compartment light is housed by a metal Holder with a rotating cover that also act as a switch to turn of the light.

Many guys forget to close that lid and run around at night with their engine glowing from the intake vents. Cool if you are in a Fast & Furious trilogy

Anyhoo, just close the cover and it will shut off. Becarefull if left on too long it gets pretty hot but only works when headlights/parking lights are on.

Jim

After I first had my SC, I discovered this little light and it's attending rotating switch by accident, but have always felt this was one of those clever little things engineered into the 911 that make the car unique and very special. Plus, that light is really handy for checking oil in the dark without a flashlight.

+1, and pretty bright and sufficient to see the entire engine compartment to check idle and jumper B&C.

It is supposed to be switched to the glove box door, you will probably see another hole for the switch, many of them have been disconnected for what ever reason. Mine is disconnected on the glove box for the glove box cover. It only works in the ON/OFF position.

I am thinking about wiring it to the doors so I get more light for my passenger at night.

My VW Thing had the same lamp assembly in the "glove box".
