915 transmission question

I own a 1977 911s with a non functioning transmission. I purchased a 1975 915 transmission and now getting ready to install. Will the helper spring setup on the 77 work on the 75 transmission? If so what will I need to do make fit?
Thanks

What are you planning to do with the mechanical/electrical speedo problem?

The plan will be to convert over to a mechanical speedo.

to use the horseshoe spring setup, swap the vertical shaft from the '77, along with the pivot pin bracket on the side cover. have fun running that speedo cable thru the tunnel.

You'll need to use the '75 clutch cable and arm.

Remove seats. Remove shift tower. Remove pedal board. Remove coupler cover plate. Loosen e-brake assembly and lay it over to the side. Remove carpet from all tunnel access openings. Remove trunk carpet. Remove fresh air blower cover panel. Remove electrical speedo. Drink a six pack while deciding if this is something that you really want to do.

Boy,....thats truly golden advice,....

AFAIK, there are no adapters to generate the electronic signal from the mechanical one.

If it were my car, I'd repair the '77 transmission as thats really the best long-term option.

Steve: HI!

tjs4300: Where are you in the country? What died in your '77 trans? I can fix it, SW can fix it, JW can fix it...if you're on the left coast.

I live in Wisconsin.
I can't put the current transmission into first gear the remaining gears are fine. I took the inspection cover off and sincro teeth fell out. The 75 transmission came up and thought I would swap out.

Is it aluminum or magnesium? Shipping weight via FedEx is about 130 pounds. How many miles on it?

Check this out as well; http://porsche.wikidot.com/

Click on "915" under "page tags" and you will find my 9-part 915 repair Tutorial.

The odometers says 110,000 miles. Not sure if I'm equiped to crack this case open and try to fix it.

If the odo is correct, probably $2500-3000 for mag; a bit more for aluminum. Should turn out great!

With that mileage, always fix what you have!
