My New $8.00 Driving Lights
Went to the Monroe Swap Meet this morning to look for a 1958 Washington State license plate for the Land Rover and found some Cibie Iode 40 driving lights in the bottom of a box of other junk. They had a sticker with 8- on them and...$8.00 it is! They aren't the chrome housing model, but for 8 bucks I'm not going to complain. In the past I had some nice chrome lights on the car, but during my one of my "less is more" phases I took 'em off and sold them. We'll see how long these last.
These were a little rough. The black plastic was faded to an almost tan color and the chrome rims were so dirty I couldn't tell what shape they were in. Before... ![]() ![]() After...the rims are polished and I painted the housings with some satin black plastic paint. I cut off and replaced the terminals to match the driving light connections on the car and I need one bizarro H2 bulb that I ordered from Stern Lighting today. I wasn't sure about the plastic, but they're growing on me, plus they're different from everybody else's lights...which I like (on that note: I also have some new side stripes in the works that are different from everyone's except one). ![]() ![]() One more... ![]() All in all, a pretty good morning at the swap meet. I did find a '58 license plate too!
