Lowering front end 82SC
I'm looking to lower my front end about 1/4-1/2in in the front. Currently from the ground to the fender arch it measures 26in front. The rear sits about 24.5. Since the back end sits right where I want it I figure i'll just spin the torsion bar setting on each side CC to lower. Should the car be on jackstands when adjusting the torsion bar or can it be resting on the ground?
I read somewhere that some of the mid 70's cars came with a top washer doughnut between the shock top and shock tower, do you know if the 82 SC came with that? If so I could probably just remove that to get it lower. Thanks!!! |

Beware - mine sits at 25.75 in the front and 26 in the rear (it sits a little high in the rear, I think) and I have to be pretty darned careful coming out of driveways. It's possible, I suppose, that if the rear was lower, driveways wouldn't be such a problem.

Anyone reading his question? Yes, you can lower it while it is on the ground. Raising it is a different story. Just make sure you count the turns on each side so they match. I'd do 2 full turns on both sides; drive it around the block and take a look. You do need an allignment after you get it set where you want it though.

Just went out and turned the torsion bar set bolt 2 turns cc on both sides. Pushed down on the front end and it's lower by 1/2in. perfect! Gotta take it for a ride still but it looks a lot better! Thanks again.
