68-71? 911 targa restoration

Hello, been surfing for a while now, and you guys seem to be the ones to talk to, or in hope of pointing me in the right direction. I've recently had a what seems to be a 68-71 911 targa come my way, one capable of being saved from the bone yard. part of a package deal actually, to an automotive salvage yard to which im employed. I have 16 porsche shells from 60's early 70's 911's, 912s, 914s. and what seems to be enough parts to restore a single shell. All this being said, looking for some euro gurus to point me in the right direction, and get me the technical data I need. This will be my fourth frame off restoration, but all on the domestic side. plan on this being a documented progressive build. Ill be posting some photos of what I have to work with. So first question would be a recommendation on a decent aftermarket source for weatherstripping, trim, bodypanels, etc. So far, im in the market for: Front bumper, turn-signals, Rear bumper, The engine hatch, and drive-train. Drive train options, for sure. Ill post photos of all the shells I have available also, if someone saw somthing they might need. Theyre scheduled to be crushed by the end of the week although.

First,
Welcome to Pelican
You will find a lot of help here.

Theyre scheduled to be crushed by the end of the week although.
YIKES!
Post the pictures QUICK.

The first mission is to identify the cars.
Then see if any are in condition to be rebuilt.
Finally spot parts that need to come off.

Where are you located?
That probably will have a lot to do with finding easy shipping.
I suspect you can do some bartering.

Here is a little instruction thread on posting images:
How to post images (pictures) on Pelican
I think it is still ‘in date’.
Please post lots of good images – that will help get you what you need.

Get the Porsche PET CD parts manual (~$10). It has the exploded diagrams and part numbers for proper identification.

Do you want to build a car to recoup your investment or something to play with or both?

Best,
Grady

well, pending intrest, I might be able to sway them to being spared for a while longer. There seems to be 3 targas, and I believe the rest were 912 shells? if that sounds about right. probably about 8 of those, 2 914 shells. and various other frame sections. all 60's models. they've been picked pretty clean, but definatly worth taking a look at. pretty good stock of restorable gauges in great condition, various interior, calipers and spindles, steering linkage, gearshifts and linkage, etc. Will post from work in the morning.

Don't let this stuff go to the crusher before people here have a chance to save them!!!!

There's money to be made, which should sway your bosses to at least wait until you've posted as many pics as you can.

Looking forward to following your project. Sounds interesting!

Central florida. Can photo and ship parts, we do have an ebay store as well. VFW AutoSalvage 19410 VFW rd, Brooksville, FL 34601. Just need a hand on identification, if you would like any specific photos I can have them to you in an hour or two. And whats the "S" designation for?

The S was the high end version of the 911. Bigger motor, bigger brakes, special equipment. Vary few were made and they are collectable. You should also post on the early S Registry. I got dibs on the wood steering wheel.

the early (pre-74) S designated cars are very sought after, even if the tub is in really crappy shape.

You do not want to send these to the crusher.

You can learn more about what the parts are worth by checking out the classified section here.

People are going to be jumping all over you for stuff. I'm not educated enough to spot the rare, super pricey items, but I know that the targa bars are worth something, as is all the glass, etc.

Make sure you have enough for your build, it would suck to sell something that you may need for your project.

Good luck with this!

going to do my best to save what I can, but Thats only going to fly pending interest from you guys, to give the owner an eye full so to speak. Just got off the phone with Ratbox and got the lo down on whats what, so Ill be posting some vin tags of what I have to work with. Dont be shy to ask on specific photos on somthing you might be looking for on these models. Mostly what I seem to have thats savable is dash components, gauges, Misc Interior, suspension components. Most of the tubs and bodies are in rough shape. Lets hear some requests for the Save-A-Porsche project.

Let me know if you have a clear (untinted) rear window from a 912 coupe, that has no defroster wires. I might be interested in the door glass, too, if it's clear and in good shape.

Thanks,
Jeff
