CIS qustions....

Hello all. Just put my engine back in last night (by myself and my floorjack). Actually a piece of cake. I happen to find a real good balance point.

Got oil in it and bumped the starter till I got some oil pressure

Now I am trying to bleed the fuel distributor. With the pump running and lifting the sensor plate, I get fuel flowing out the injector lines nicely, but its not opening the injector. Doesn't seem like its building enough pressure or something? The car ran fine before I rebuilt the engine.

Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks guys...

Chris

Chris,

seem to be a fuel pressure problem?

It is hard to guess, there are too many parameters. Could be the fuel pump (not working properly or blocked) or control pressure regulator failed or ....? In any case you need to start checking the system in a logical way.

I would recommend you to get the CIS "bible", Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management, by Charles O. Probst, ISBN 0-8376-0300-5. Think I got mine from Barnes & Noble. This book will lead you along the mysterious CIS path.

good luck, Bjorn

It's really tough to do much diagnostic work on the CIS system without a pressure gauge set-up. An $80 investment with J.C. Whitney is well worth the cost.

It sounds like you had flow with the injectors disconnected, but do you have enough pressure to open them and create a suitable spray pattern?

There are many knowledgeable folks out there that will be willing to help if they have a few more clues. With the aforementioned book (last post) and a pressure tester, you'll be on your way. Good luck!

CIS question

My situation was exactly as yours- rebuilt motor, ran fine before RB. I played for hours trying to get fuel pressure but no luck. Finally on a whim I disconnected the fuel line at the T connection. As soon as pressure was releived, equilized, whatever, it worked.
How or why I don't know. It's worth a shot. Good luck.

That is what I did, sort of. I ran the pump for several minutes trying to get enough pressure to open a injector.

Then once I cracked open the top connection at the fuel filter, retightened and holy cow I have pressure!

Thanks to all for the advise.

Chris
