ugly seat belt plastic covers removed...

Good little project. Removed the belts and receptacles (all four); had to use an impact wrench! Tore off all the cracked, splitting, ugly plastic covers and rubbed down the seat belt pieces with some good leather/vinyl cleaner; webbing, housings, metal and all. Used the IW to bolt them back on, too. Had to. The inboard mounted receptacles have a goldish hue to the metal, and look better in "real life". All the pieces look nice and clean and neat; no tears, fraying, rust, nada. All belt material and housings are nice and black. Maybe I'll pull the receptacles and paint the metal black, though not necessarily. I also installed some locking seat backs (with very nice carpet backing and nice fronts), just slipped them on and bolted them right in. Great fit. That I could do so was a surprise, in that the proper receptacle was already in place on the hump to accept (perfectly) the red-button locking pins! My car has a build date of 10-85, so it doesn't really make sense that the mount was there! The old seats actually had all the straps, too, like most pre-1987 911s! So why the pin-mount/receiver was even there is a mystery. I removed the upper straps at the rear deck and simply put the screws and upholstery washers back in place. Vacuumed, conditioned all leather and vinyl, and done. My back is still a little sore from hangin' out back there in the rear of the car; a Corona helped with that after (and during ) the job. Not too technical, all this, but it works for me. | ||

Interesting. I wonder if it was an option? Still wouldn't explain my car having the holes and receiver for the pins AND the seats with all straps. Odd. Speaking of options, my car's "under-bonnet" label lists only "C02" as an option, and the label has the proper identification linking it to my car. Funny thing is, my car came with a bunch of options; spoilers, short shift, 16" wheels, partial leather, tinted glass, central locking, cruise, etc., etc....??

I may go that route with the seat belts. One of my rears is cracked and doesn't look too good. My label doesn't list any options, either. There is a thread out there somewhere discussing the lack of record keeping by Porsche with regard to the bonnet label. Luckily I have the original window sticker, so I know it is a factory M491 with LSD, etc.

Mine do not have the locking pin But I really don't carry rear passengers. Buddy's 86 Targa has them though. Strange?
