Oil pump bearings
The problem is that I got my bearing set today, but no oil pump bearings in the set. I called the firm and they said that they don't have those in stock, but WV beetle has same bearings as a camshaft bearings? Company also told me that I should buy 2 sets of those to get a match, good thing is that they cost 7$ per set.
Is this true that they are interchangeable and Beetle has the same parts? |

I've never seen oil pump bearings.
Are you refering to th intermediate shaft bearings? If so, there shouldn't be a problem with getting a set. The're pretty common and should come with a rebuild kit. Pelican carries them. I wouldn't think that a camshaft part on a VW would be interchangable with a Porsche motor... but stranger things have happened. ![]() Maybe someone else can shed some light on that one.

Just got my hands on WV bearings. Here is the picture. On the left are the Porsche parts and on the right there are the WV ones.
They are identical except that the Porsche part has this groove (in the bigger bearing) in the middle, and WV part does not have..But I heard they have put these in .... |

You don't mean here (red circle) you means here and here (red arrows), right?
Well from a personal standpoint, I wouldn't put the WV bearings in there. They are different. That groove is there to provide a channel for oil to fully lubricate the bearing surface. I just wouldn't do it... there are plenty of places that should be able to hook you up with a set of proper intermediate shaft bearings. Call a dealer maybe?

Last evening, I anxiously went to the garage and while others were revving their V8 engines, I thought, soon they will hear what a true engine sounds like.
These thoughts were in my mind because I had just gotten new bearings for the engine. On the side of the package it says "up to -74". I start to install. Hmm, this seems odd, the little notch is on the wrong side. Well, must be the upper part. I open up another package, still the same. Yet another....Argh. These are the wrong bearings? How can they be. I immediately call to the firm (open 24h a day) and they tell me to verify that I have a true 2.4T engine (-72). After a while we find out that yes, my engine is what it should be. But the bearings are not. Even the firm i had bought the bearings from had gotten 5 boxes of wrong bearings because the cardboard box the bearings are in had a wrong text printed on them!! Well, new bearings are on their way, free of shipping costs. Plus they promised to send me new oil return lines as a bonus. =) |
