Question Air Cleaner Cap 84-89 OEM Air Box

OK, just received my Air Cleaner CAP, WTF?

PAG# 930 110 256 00

How does this thing work or not work? Makes no sense, If I put this on it will literally cap off the hose of the Breather Hose connection port on the OEM Box.

Any advise or recommendations?

Jim

I thought it would be a "one way" valve to keep the condensating oil from coming back into the box from the breather , but no, it is a CAP

Jim,

my 87 has a blank nipple on the back side of the base for the air box. A very simple rubber cap as you explain covers it. I have no idea what its for, other than maybe some source for something my specific car did not have. Beats me. I also replaced mine when I had the engine out last year just due to the fact that it was cracked like so many other rubber things were. be inetersting to know what you find out on its purpose.

Thanks Mike for the Moral Support. So is your Breather Hose connected to the Air box or flopping around loose?

PAG calls it a "STOP". What the Hell?

Damn at $12.03, it better do something, like add .0002 seconds to my DE time trials or at least lunch.

I feel like a moron buying a $12 rubber cap that does nothing.

Anyone???

Jim,

As memory serves me I have 2 nipples on the back of my air box. One has the breather hose, and the other has a closed cap. I clearly remember replacing both when I had the engine out.

when I take things apart - I connect the one hose that goes to the air cleaner housing but I don't remember what it goes to - maybe fuel vapor related? It is easy to forget hooking it up and the clip is a PITA.

Thanks Fellas, I don't even recall if my Air Box from an '86 doner had an extra nipple. I'm going to check.

The Breather Hose is for the Oil, if disconnected, you will introduce unfiltered air into the oil tank.

Again thanks for the posts,

Jim

OK, dealer wrote me back and they do not have clue how it works, they assumed it may be a plug to keep air flow constant on European models, not DOT USA.

I don't think you're supposed to block that off. The hose from the charcoal canister forward in the rear right fender is supposed to connect to that port. The slight vacuum in the airbox during engine operation helps to draw the gasoline fumes out of the canister.

Dude, Jim.... Stop obsessing and trying to replace every part on your 911. Step away from the catalog! Get out and drive it! Better yet, come join us at El Toro on the 12th.

It probably is used, just not on your car. FYI, my original air box only has one nipple and a hose attached.

Yes, OC PCA.
