One of these days, I'll learn about spell check! Or, learn how to spell...we'll have to see which comes first;) I'm gonna try and do things to this car/thread regularly. I have tons to learn about early cars and many frustrations to share. D'oh! Though, you may hear me muttering something else. May...who am I kidding? haha!!

I'm pretty darn sure this 72 will stay narrow bodied. Must resist...must resist... I'll try to keep it period correct, or acceptable. Besides, you guys will correct me if I go too far off course. I need that, so feel free!

Hey G! At least I'm official now...haha!!

Hmm, guess I need to change my avatar. :(
However, I'm sure the ole "female dog" is in good hands. Lord knows I enjoyed the hell out of it! It's a great car and I resisted the "go wide" urge and left her narrow. Glad I did and I think it looks great. Lots of guys at the track would approach me after a session and say "What the hell is in the this thing? Those skinny tires are kickin' my butt!" I'd say "It's all stock. Even using stock "T" brakes." I'd then pause for about 3 seconds and add "Yup, stock 3.2, except for the SSI's. But the muffler is stock." We'd all laugh a bit and they'd ask a ton questions. Good times.

C'mon Greg, show us the interior!

gregbus 06-09-2011 12:37 PM

Today I was a putting on the the new fuel hose and rain shields. I got the black Cohline from a member out on the early 911S registry site. Thanks Brad! I absolutely love PP, though I'm finding that the "other" site can be a really handy resource for early cars too.

I picked up the cleaned up trumpets/stacks yesterday. I just HAAAAD to put all this suff on! I also put on some 906 rain shields (thanks again Ramon) and filters that I really like! Using the same trumpets, I can go back to the K&N rain shields/hats if I really feel the need to. I don't see that ever happening , but it's always good to have options. I'm not even done with the ol' spit n shine yet, and it's already pretty cool to me.

I spoke with Stephan (great guy!) at GTS seats this morning and I should have the seats here very soon. Until then, there isn't much to look at right now. Sorry Don...it'll give us both something to look foward to:) Besides, you can finally see the 2.7 now...haha!!

I just realized that I need to add cutting down the grille badge bolts to the list. D'oh!

gregbus 06-19-2011 12:58 PM

Been a busy couple of days, but I still managed to get a few projects off the list. A very few in the grand scheme of things. I did get the bumperette seals put on. Muuuuch better! They look better, sound better...and save the paint too. Thanks Classic! Pics to come next time (thought I had some...d'oh).

I also put a fuse panel cover on. Being kinda lazy...er I mean smart. Hiding it with a cover seemed to make more sense than painting it. Y'all be the judge though.

Before...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308484648.jpg
After...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308515961.jpg

I started changing out the seals in the rear turn signal housings, and it snowballed into restorintg the turn signals. All four housisngs, Euro lenses, LED bulb coversion, painting (inside and outside). Darn P-O-P and his infomative Pelican threads on chaging to LED bulbs. I did steal some great ideas from him though! I'm currently debating powder coating the inside of the housings. Hmmmmm...

I also put on a new mirror (I'll save the original one tho) from TRE. Me likey being able to see now! Although...what is behind you, does not matter;)

Also, I put on a few of the new Norma clamps today. I'm getting a PMO fuel log on order, so no need to change the banjo clamps.

Very nice car!Hope you enjoy it for a long time.

al lkosmal 06-19-2011 04:34 PM

Greg,
That is nice. A clean machine. Bring it to the next XXX gathering, so we can drool on it a bit.

Regards,
al

gregbus 06-20-2011 05:27 AM

Mornin Al! I'm pretty sure I'd be the one drooling! I'll be sure and make it up to the XXX soon though. I hope to have this one ready to go in a couple of months. Heck, there isn't even a driver seat...or a steering wheel today:D

tharbert 06-20-2011 06:23 AM

OK, I'll ask the lame wheel/tire question: What rim/tire sizes do you have? I have pretty much decided to stay narrow with my 72T. Your setup looks to be about as much rubber as you can comfortably get without flares...or is it?

gregbus 06-20-2011 08:45 AM

It has 205/55/15s all the way around. Personally, I wouldn't go any wider than that without doing the flares. I've decided to stay narrow as well. Other folks would be able to speak to the max tires on a narrow body.

Those are 15x7 Fuchs in RSR finish by Al Reed. The camber is about neg 2.5 degrees rear and neg 1.5 degrees front. I bet you could fit 215 back there. Finding that tire size in a manufacturer you want could be a challenge. Any wider would require some creative massaging to fit. Look at some of Tyson's posts about stock 1972 flares and tire fitment.

gregbus 06-21-2011 02:57 PM

Thanks for that Don! I learn something new about about that car ever day...and that's a REALLY good thing. Note to self:)

gregbus 08-13-2011 07:53 AM

Whew! Tiling projects in the house, and multiple car projects don't work too well together. However, I did manage to get some things done to the 72....eventually. An update on things is way overdue!

The ST seats from Stephan at GTS Classics came in. The drivers seat (the important one, because it's all about me) has the optional lumber support. Ahhhh! I'm just waiting for the carpeting to be done and the other mounting hardware to arrive. Gonna to go with a tilting bracket on the passenger side. I'll also use some nice rails I had from an SC, with the adapter brackets, to mount em up. It'll be nice to have a seat on the drivers side! No more starting it sitting on the 911 floor.

This will be a two page update. I guess its been that long:D

Part 2

The seals on the rear bumperettes worked great!!! My paint feels a little safer...and they look much better too. Pics soon.

The hub for the new Prototipo was a PITA. I tried a Momo hub for a pre-73.5, but it didn't fit. I had my buddy Chris bring over a few early hubs...same thing. It's probably the original spline, but sometimes that's the way it is. We ended up trying a Boss hub with bolt holes for Nardi and a Momo. It worked!!! I ordered one right away. It's always nice to have options too

Part 3

I had the smugglers box cover cleaned up and powder coated by a fellow Pelicanite. It's a little glossy and I know it'll just go under the carpet...but, no more rusty spots. Thanks Barry!

The PMO fuel bars (and filters) came in and I had to put them on. The new hose and Norma clamps weren't on there very long...haha! I like the clamps and line, but I like no possibility of a fuel leak there even more:)

Greg,
That is looking very nice. When is the debut?

regards,
al

Rich Lambert 08-13-2011 01:44 PM

Looking good Greg!

kiwiokie 08-14-2011 04:44 AM

Beautiful car. Should be stunning once your plans are complete.

gregbus 08-14-2011 05:47 AM

Thanks a bunch guys! The debut will (hopefully) be this summer. I haven't even driven this one yet. Yet... Until then, it's just good physical therapy and a few projects for me:) When it comes to driving, the steering wheel and the seat being installed will sure help too:)

DonDavis 08-16-2011 08:45 PM

I actually had a XXX sticker on the rear pass window for awhile. Can't wait to see the seat(s) once in.
