Fuel filter Question
I ordered a new fuel filter to put on my 77 911s. When it showed up it had a different fitting at the bottom of the filter. The filter itself is the correct part number but the fitting is different. It looks like it just screws in place with a brass washer. Is there any reason I shouldn't just remove the fitting off the old one and put it on the new filter? It seems like its just a straight forward swap. Also, do I need to put any type of thread sealant on it when I do swap fittings? Thanks for you advice.

Yes, you can swap the fittings – but it is difficult to get off. The fittings (were) additionally held in place with an epoxy-like ‘thread locker’ although somewhat soft compared to properly cured (hard-as-a-rock) epoxy. You will need a proper fitting 6-point box-end wrench for the aluminum hex on the filter body. You might consider additionally a ‘strap wrench’ on the filter body. The aluminum is soft and you don’t want to damage it. A regular 12-point box wrench is adequate for the steel fitting. The purpose of the ‘thread locker’ is to prevent the fitting from unscrewing when removing the fuel line nut fitting. (Some don't use two wrenches when loosening the nut.) Your decision to reinstall ‘thread locker’. I don’t. Best, Grady

I forget if it was the filter or the accumulator, but one of them did not pass the leak test after the first start up. It just needed an extra 1/16th turn.
Not a easy job for me for some reason, needed a 3rd hand as usual.

i ended up having to swap out both the top and bottom fittings. wonder what was up with that? anyway it wasnt to bad. Its all swapped over and installed back in the car. Now to bench check the pump, put the tank back in and see if it will start

Alright I have another question. After thinking that the fuel pump was toast I took a pic of it to make sure I can hook it up correctly and then I take it out of the car. so I get it out and im looking at it and on the pump there is very clearly marked a + and - . My question is I took the red wire off the neg and the black wire off the pos. Isnt that backwards??? ive never seen that before. Can anyone verify this for me? im wondering if they hooked it up wrong and that has been my problem with the pump. Thanks

Since it's DC, reversing polarity will cause a motor to run in reverse direction (if it's free to do so). IIRC, it's a rotary vane type pump (though I've never cut one open to verify); I think many r-v pump designs can pump bi-directionally (reverse flow if rotated in other direction).
Reverse terminals? Worth trying . . .
