Can I send him a gearbox to rebuild? I imagine his hourly rate is quite reasonable...?

Yes...he will probably do it for Wii games or superhero action figures.

How about the other way around, taking my dad for a spin in my first Porsche, and to see the excitement and grin on his face after the ride.

I like this thread. Reminds me of the time I let my son (16 yrs.) drive the 89 at his first AX. I jokingly said if you beat my time you can have the car. The offer was distinctly withdrawn after that event.

My 31 year old son just bought back my 914-6GT clone that I had for 9 years and sold to a buddy 7 years ago. The feeling never ends.

My 17 year old went to his junior prom last week in my 911.......he proved to me that he was a responsible driver. I don't know who was more nervous as he pulled down the driveway........great memories for both of us.

Inside the engine bay. Age 3. I hope he'll still own it when he's 83.
