porsche good guy!

girlfriend and i out to dinner last evening in my 71 911 coupe.. a couple of blocks from the restaurant we pass through a construction zone and we hear a telltale clickety click from one of the tires. we pull into the parking lot and i get out expecting to find a gravel lodged in the tread but no...a large piece of metal and the tire losing air rapidly. i pull out the semi trailer tire sized bottle of tire repair to see if this will seal the puncture but the screw on end breaks off the sealant hose...only bought the sealant a couple of days earlier... now i am stuck and 15 miles from home. scratching my head for answers and this guy seeing my situation pulls up and offers to help. he had a small compressor but this will do no good for this tire. he then offers to go get a wheel and tire off his 911 so that i can drive my car home. 20 minutes later he returns with a 15 inch fuchs but the offset will not quite clear the 930 turbo calipher....he offers to go get a spacer and does and the wheel goes on ! looked kinda silly in place of the 9 inch wheel with 245-45-16 kumho ecsta...but it worked. i followed him home to see his car....an unmolested gulf blue 1972 911 coupe which he is considering selling...mmmm..first 911 i ever owned was a gulf blue 72 coupe.

at any rate this guy went way out of his way to help and proves once again that most in the porsche community will do the same !! thanks to steve black in greenville sc!

I would do the same, & I'm hope that if I'm in that situation, I might get some help. All I carry is 2 can of fix-a-flat & my compressor, but I also have AAA.

I think that was orginally, ".....on a Honda."

Kudos to the good samaritan. Buy the '72. That would be an investment.

Er...what else did you do in your 71 911 coupe? (as an afterthought, please don't tell me about it...!)

BTW, yesterday I too found out that friends are invaluable, and that they do exist! Plenty of good people around EVERYWHERE it's just that there's always just a few wanting to spoil it for everybody...

Wow that is great. I sure would try to do the same but I rarely have the time to go out of my way that far. Need to work on that!

update!

8 years later....searching i came across this old post from years back. to cut to the chase...i bought the car in2008 pretty much the same condition as described earlier. did quite a bit of metal restoration, interior, etc but ran out of steam on the project...just not into restoration to stock! a gentleman from Holland was searching for such a car on Pelican. several emails and pics later and the requesite funds transfer and the car is on it way to the Netherlands.
