Manual door lock- knob problem- 84 Carrera
Hello Everyone,
Just having a simple problem and i know someone here has the solution. My doors won't lock or unlock because the lock knobs are too tight. If i take off the knobs they work fine. I can tell the metal rod isn't straight enought and that's why it's not working. Is there some type of guide to keep it straight ? Thanks Tay |

Do you have the correct washer under the knob?

doesn't matter if the doors are open or closed , it's the same problem there is too much friction on the knob. it wants to pop off the plastic circle guide.
Crustychief- which washer are you referring to ? If it's the plastic one one the outside that the knob goes through then yes. |

There is a guide between the door panel and the door.

If your door is open it won't lock. My 79 wont anyway.

ya that's there. The prob is the same if door is closed. As soon as i take off the little plastic caps up top everything is fine. It's just the rod that comes out at an angle. You think it would help if i changed the guide bushing ?

That is odd, those guides tend to pop off if you slam the door but will still allow the mechanism to operate. Strange.

i know, it's really wierd. It's the knob hitting the bushing that's the issue. I'm going to try some silicon grease and if that doesn't work maybe some new guide bushings i think. I just wanted to see if anyone else ever had that issue.

. I'm talking about number 1. It's hitting the washer guide at an angle and not popping out. I unscrew number 1 and remove and everything works perfectly .

Lol, it's royally annoying. If #1 was smaller there would be no issue, i'm thinking about buying the rennline alluminum pins. hopefulyl they're a tad bit narrower.

I thought you were talking about number 14. I hope the diagram page from the manual helps. I redid my window seals and had the door panel off a couple of other times and did not experience the problem you are. Sorry I couldn't help.

Turn the lock buttons counterclockwise enough turns so that when the door is locked, the top of the button is slightly ABOVE the ring (you call it a washer, I think).
So the top of the button is a tad proud of the door top when it is locked. Counterclockwise raises the button. Fixed mine. |

Yeap it may be the wrong #1 or wrong ID trim ( you called washer ), get the proper guide or end cap. If on a budget open up the trim to fit the OD of the end cap/knob
