911 popping, bad response
I like to post on here. It's good to read what others have already been through.
My 1970 911 with zeniths has bad throttle response until about 2000rpms where it runs pretty zippy. On the road it has good pull and sounds good. When first starting the car it pops once in a while and won't idle. After being driven it will usually sit and idle pretty well. I have put this down to characteristics of an antiquated carburated car but I wonder what it would take to improve it. I do not have a syncrometer. The car has only been running about a month. The more I drive it, the better it runs. |

I have a unisync for sale....sounds like a transition problem from idle to WOT. Best to buy the Weber tuning book. Or check out this online PDF. http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/v/vspfiles/images/Weber%20Trouble%20Shooting%20Guide.pdf

Have they been cleaned?
Popping out of intake could be a synch problem. How did you set them up? Follow any guide? I am sure there is one here if you search for it. Properly cleaned and tuned zeniths will run very well on a 2.2T.

Actually I haven't tuned them. The previous owner had them set up and tuned just before putting the car into storage. Granted that was 3 years of sitting but really it sounds and runs decent. I'm afraid my tuning will cause more popping. I've read about people tuning the zeniths and it just increases the popping. At this time it's not really that often. I sprayed Barrymans Chemtool into the carbs before start up and ran the old fuel out of the lines into inclosed coffee cans.
I read something about the enrichment circuits causing bad throttle response. |
