Will 3.2 Heat Exchangers Fit on late 3.0

I keep finding conflicting opinions. The late SC heat exchangers seem to have the same collar extensions on the exhaust ports as do the Carreras. Some say they have to be ground off. Why? Are the sizes different?

I'm looking at a pair of use Dansk heat exchangers that came off a Carrera and I'm trying to determine if I can use these.

If you remove the head insert from the carrera heat boxes it will work. If you have an air chisel you can remove the insert without grinding because there is 3 small spot welds holding the Carrera insert to the tube, just break the weld loose.

Bruce...why does the insert have to be removed? The HE's on my 83 SC have thick flanges and the inserts on them already?

exhaust ports are larger on the 3.2, hence larger diameter inserts

Okay that makes sense now. I just pulled out Waynes engine rebuild book and see that the exhaust ports on the 3.2 are 3mm larger than the SC.

So...looking for some advice...if I got a really good deal on the Dansk heat exchangers should I go for them? Or should I just hold out and wait to find some SSI's.

I'm looking at $ 750 shipped including the two oil lines that you need to change. What do you think?

Hold out for the SSI's. The Dansk are not up to par in quality with the factory heat exchangers, and will not perform as well as the SSI's.

For a little more money, the SSI's are well worth it.

Just to clarify, the Dansk heat exchangers I'm referring to are the sport model which are similar to SSI's.

Arrow

I have a set of 3.2 SSI's with the collars cut off already, PM me for details if interested. Great deal and I can help with shipping.

Can I modify 3.2 SSI to fit 3.0 Exhaust Ports?
