is this something I can tackle with a 3 bay garage and some hand tools...or should I leave it to the pros?
One place said synchros bearings gaskets seals and clips for 750 all in one day Motor Meister?? Maybe work with them since I am local to them (LA) Or the Vertex exchange problem ~1000 Do you have wrenches in the area? Or can I just open her up and switch out just the parts that are problematic...which seem to be the bearings...or is it a waste to open her up and not change out the sychros...I am looking for the most economical situation...I start med school this fall, so I am taking out 100K in loans as we speak... Thanks guys MJ |

bearings are not problematic. syncros and shift sleeves are. 8hrs labor at $80hr =$640. that's in and out of the car. syncros, gasket set,1+2 sleeve, 3+4 sleeve, at least 2 sets of press on teeth, brake bands, and gear oil can double that. so at $750, you're not getting much. they're reasonably easy to do, but there are a few problems you can run into without having the proper tools and experience. get a decent manual and walk yourself thru it. it will show just about everything except changing the press on teeth.
