Question 1999-2000 Porsche LMP1 - still in hiding?

Mike Fuller has a great website describing the history of the stillborn LMP car that was killed to make way for the SUV project. The last line of Mike's description says: "To this day Porsche denies the existence of the car even as it sits in the workshops of the racing department at Weissach."

Anybody ever hear anything more? See any better photos than the ones that Mike has posted? See any more recent evidence of the car's continued existence? The phots on Mike's site are the only photos I've ever seen of the car.

I'm a long shot kind of guy, but also an optimist. Does anyone have anything on this one? Must be buried pretty deep inside Weissach for nobody to have any sightings in 10+ years.

I vaguely remember someone saying it was at the race shop in weissach of it under a white tarp a few years ago. The engineers had rolled it out of a high bay to make room for a truck dropping some equipment off or something. You couldn't see anything as it was kept under the tarp the whole time but based on the wheelbase and small bit of rear end haning out it was assuredly the LMP1.

The photos look quite a bit like the RS Spyder. Maybe the chassis was used as a basis for the Spyder. Anyone know if there is a connection?

I thought it became the Carrera GT. I imagine they would look somewhat similar in proportion.

My understanding was that the engine (and perhaps the transmission) was detuned and used in the CGT. Some of the suspension work in the CGT may have had race car origins, but don't know how much of the chassis or suspension came from the LMP car.

I'm pretty sure that car wasn't designed by Porsche but by a UK based motorsport design consultancy that were not allowed to take any credit publically for their work. I don't think it was their first job for Porsche either.

I had an interview with this consultancy who were recruiting for their next sportscar project and were about to start when they had got the go ahead from the car manufacturer they were currently working for, again I'm sure Porsche were behind this too.

I think it looks pretty cool. Time to dust it off, put a big fin on it , and go racing. I bet they could beat the other petrol-powered cars.

Would Piech even let that happen?
