Hey guys, I'll try and make this as short as I can. Started off with an '86 3.2 with a RUF tach and Speedometer that both worked fine, I should have stopped there. I decided to swap out the two for a tach and speedo from a 85' 3.2 that I used to have and worked fine when removed. I did replace the odometer gear.
First problem: when hooking up the speedo, didn't do my homework first. hooked up the red wire first with the ignition on, (jamming tunes). During a 2 mile test drive it was showing about 140mph when I was doing approx. 30mph. After a teardown and some forum reading, reinstalled with key off and red wire last. Luckily it works fine. +_ 1mph@60 against a GPS. pretty good considering I had the needle off during the gear replacement. Also lucky I didn't smoke the IC in the unit itself, it smelled a little toasty.
Next problem: Tachometer, The 6 pin connector that was in the back of the ruf had the 1 position, black wire, removed. The tach itself only has spades in position 2, 5 & 6. after installing 85' tach, I also added the black wire that had been taped off into position 1. tach worked fine but shift light was always dim and lit bright only in top gear(5th) under load. dim all other times. I removed #1 wire and re-taped. now shftlight is always dim not off, all the time? any input on how to get the shiftlight to work? and how much are the RUF guages worth? they are Not for sale.
