Who doesnt like their WEVO shifter?
 

All I hear on this board is raves but a friend of mine has the Wevo shifter and it is difficult to get used to. I'm guessing its an installation issue. Anyone else not care for their Wevo after installed?

You want boring, add the WEVO gateshift.. now that's boring!

What's not to like?

The spring-centering effect without the gate tabs (old shifter has the tab on the shifter that captures the other tab atop the shift housing in 5th-Reverse plane) doesn't hold the shifter in place like it should and relieve the spring pressure on the shift forks? That's one reason why I chose the Seine gate shift thingamajigger kit because it mimics what the original shifter does in 5th and reverse.

It's a good upgrade but often people install one thinking it will "fix" all of their problems.
It's not worth a "pinch of p**" if your 915 or your bushes are worn out.

Before any upgrade like this I would check and double check everything else. Make any adjustments and replace bushings as needed so your 915 shifts like it did from the factory.
Once you're happy THEN install the WEVO...

I bought a RENSHIFT and I'm very happy with it but when I first installed it I felt disappointed. Long story short my 78 915 was in need of a rebuild but I didn't know that at the time.
OK... So now I have a gearbox from and 83 and the RENSHIFT I'm more than happy with the results. The centre springing of 3~4 make the biggest difference to the feel of the shift.

The SEINE Gate Shift Kit also looks like a great option. I like it because you keep most of your OEM Shifter. If I ever do this again I would definitely try the SEINE Gate Shift Kit.

Siene Gate Shift Kit is kind of boring too, no more WTF? shifting up to 3rd. I really miss the miss shift to 1st, so sad.

Seriously, I don't think you will find many people (if any) who don't like their Wevo shifters, thus the sarcasm in this thread.

Seriously... As someone else mentioned it doesn't cure transmission issues. It doesn't even 'cure' the crappy throw from first to second. What it does do and this is what I got it for. It makes much more precision shifts for the track. There you don't care about first or second. The shifting between third, fourth & fifth are awesome, and of course downshifting.

I don't like my Wevo shifter.

I LOVE my Wevo shifter, especially when you've got a lot of other things going on, like trail braking to throttle on, happening right quick.

I like my Wevo for my race car. I would not like it for a street car due to the reasons stated by Kevin. In my car I can hear tranny noise from the spring loading on the shift forks in 1,2 and 5th. I think that if you put the gateshift inside the tranny, that would alleviate the spring loading on the shift forks.

There is actually one thing I don't like that much. At certain revs in 3rd and 4th gear only, there is occasionally a bit of rattle. However, that might be more in the linkage than the shifter, I'll have to look into it. It goes away if I press the shifter to the left a bit.

And +1 for it not being a band-aid for other transmission woes. Need to get the tranny right first, then the shifter (whatever brand) is just icing on the cake. They all seem to be good, I got the Wevo because it's a local product and it looks cool. Non-Porsche folks often thnk I have a sequential tranny. Sometimes I don't correct them. ;)

Maybe not saying much because it's on a G50, but I love my Wevo.

I have not missed a shift to third since I installed my Wevo. What is not to like?

I just got one for my G50. I really like the positive feel. It's quite precise and makes a large difference over stock. However, because of the somewhat noisy nature of the G50 tranny, it (the shifter) does vibrate a little between 2 and 3K RPM. It stops if I put my hand lightly on the shift knob.

The unanswered question here is why spend $500 for a Wevo when the Seine shifter does pretty much the same thing for $200? I'd love to hear from someone who has sampled both. All the WEVO comments seem to say that shifting between 3rd and 4th is now wonderful as the shift lever is held nicely in that plane. Well, that is precisely what the Seine does, and does very well, perhaps even better as it doesn't have the vibration problem. What additionally does the WEVO do which makes people prefer it, if they do?

You can do a search as this has come up several times before. They are both excellent and you don't see many complaints of either (or the Rennshift kit for that matter). The Wevo is more than just the spring assist and lockout. If that's all you want then both are great but the Seine is cheaper. The most obvious Wevo difference is that it's also shortens the shift, and the shift level itself which is a nice piece of gear. This may be a negative of course if you want a stock look (although they have one that looks stock as well).
