Hot rod headliner advice - what would you do?
This is going to be a hotrod 73 with
black dash black lightweight door panels grey lightweight carpet set Some creature comforts though. Electric windows (since I want easy air flow on hot days, and it can easily be switched back later) alcantera dash (only because it is anti-glare...no really ;-) Bolt in roll cage and rally seats. Should I install a stock headliner or do something different? Looking for opinions. Pictures appreciated Thanks

I like the look of alcantara on the ceiling (same colour as the dash and top of doors) if the surrounding roof edges are nice and clean.

Here is a pic of the headliner environment. Sorry for the graininess of the picture
(btw, the seats will be going up or sale at some point in the future. The car has had racing seats most of its adult life and these later black factory seats have been preserved ). ![]()

Wayne, when you find any info on doing a non-stock headliner install please post it here. I need to do the same thing to my 73 and would love to see what other folks have done.

Alcantara is good. Depending on budget and weight restrictions, a diamond-quilt thin leather headliner could look very good as well. Bonus points if you use the same pattern/material elsewhere, as in the door panels.

I went with a stock headliner, but switched it from the original ivory color to black.
Sorry, no pictures of it on this computer. |

I have a brand new white headliner in a box that came with the car.
Debating on: 1. using the whit one 2. Selling the white one and going black, or 3. Using a felt or something other for the headliner What did original RSRs use?

Figure out if alcantara or felt or whatever is heavier than the thin vinyl headliner and the steel hoops.
Then go with the lightest one. |

Always liked the black stock look. My 32 year old white is now yellowed and ugly.

I ordered a black alcantara liner from Bob at Classic 9 in Michigan. It is excellent. He will be doing a total custom interior for me on my 930.

Wow , that looks great!
Out of interest, aside from being new, how did the interior feel compared to white? Did it feel more closed in? I'd love to compare that to a felt or alcantera picture
