Question 1977 Targa Heater Blower Motor Question

Hello - I've been viewing and reading the forums for ages, but have just recently bought my first 911 - a 1977 Targa with 145,000 miles on it in fairly good condition...certainly rust free and straight and it goes very well

Winter down here in New Zealand and the heater is fairly average in flow output - so I started investigating today.

First off and the No.23 fuse is blown in the rear fuse box then I discover the blower motor on top of the engine isn't connected at all - just two wires sticking out the motor - then when I took off the pipes and photographed inside the fan shroud intake I found this: pic attached.

I guess I know the answer to this, but the impeller of the motor is missing isn't it?

Do I strip the motor off and see if I can get it repaired or do I go for a new motor and fan assembly? The shroud flange is damaged also - looks like the clamp has been screwed down too tight at some point...

The other question is what does the wiring loom from the rear fuse box to blower motor look like as all I have are the two short wires coming out the motor - the loom they attach is nowhere to be seen!

Thanks all...

John

Whoa, you are missing the lock clamp and maybe the hamster wheel?

My buddy's 86 was missing the clamp and his motor was connected, it totally discinergrated the center and threw metal shaving into the motor and destroyed it.

It is a easy fix, just replace the motor and clamp on the fan.

reconnect it.
