Am I hurting myself?
Getting close to finished with my 4 year project and I'm installing a Carrera style oil cooler using factory hard lines.
What I don't have is an O.E. thermostat, but in lieu of that I do have a Mocal thermostat with -12 fittings. Is this going to be a problem/restriction in this system? Should I just go ahead and get one with -16 fittings. The car will be my weekend cruiser(no race track here). But I'm very leery of any temp related problems(traffic). Also, I have not added a fan, but may do so if the temps cannot be kept in check. Thanks!! ![]() ![]()

Factory lines have metric fittings....you'll need adapters. Would suggest an oem thermostat.
Fans are for stop and go traffic and actually block cooling at high speed.

Do the factory thermostat. The Mocal does not have a pressure relief valve like the factory one has. It's not so much from the restriction - internally the factory thermostat does narrow down quite a bit in the internal passages.
If you've come this far - don't skimp here - especially if you are using the factory lines

I run my 86 in the desert on track, ambient up to 105F
my system can keep up with the heat load: AN12 fittings and hoses, center mounted cooler and carrera fender cooler, stock T stat. Not an exact match with your conditions but AN12 has been OK for me.

BAT sells a Mocal set up for 911s that don't have the factory front cooler and it uses -12 fittings, I believe. So you should be fine.

Thanks guys!! I'll forge ahead with what I have for now, I'll pick up a factory t-stat soon. Maybe part of me doesn't want to finish this car that's why I'm nit-picking the last details
