porsche 911 sc clutch arm circlip
Hello,
I was taking off my exhaust system today to put on a different muffler and I noticed that the circlip on the bottom of the clutch arm shaft thing (sorry for lack of correct names), had fallen off. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a replacement, or if anyone knows the size of the circlip, that would be great. thanks for the help, i really appreciate it scott

i think this was the cause of the loss of play in the clutch petal i have had for a few weeks and the slight burnt clutch smell.

Go to the hardware store, there is several sizes, buy one of everysize that looks right, but its less than ordering and shipping.

Before going to the hardware store I would take a piece of paper and press it up against the bottom of the vertical shaft - the rod the clip clips to. Make a tracing. That will help you get in the ballpark.
You are lucky. The circlup came off of mine while racing at Sebring this winter. Went to downshift, where did that pedal go? The whole arm fell off onto the track after I had shifted into 5th on the back straight, but before turn 17. It is a wonder yours didn't fall off too. |

That is one item in my spares box in the glove compartment...
BTW, Walt, when I needed one and didn't have it I drilled into the shaft and tapped a 6-32. Put a fender washer on it for a temp. fix till I could get a replacement... I think I had it on there for 6 months before I finally got around to putting that circlip back on. Now I have both ![]() ![]()

Well, I did the same pretty much. GBox had my transmission, and made up a cap out of some aluminum stock, with a threaded screw up the middle holding it in. Below the circlip. I have resisted using any kind of Loctite on that screw, because one of the things I had liked about the circlip was the fact that I could almost get it off by hand, and certainly could get it back on my hand if my circlip tool wasn't right there under the car. Motor or tranny come out rather more often on a race car for one reason or another.
The circlip I fished out of my fasteners box when replacing the arm is tighter, probably not a bad thing considering., despite the belt and suspenders approach. But Sebring is bumpier than most tracks. |
