Unhappy Got the Crane XR700...No spark, No start

Ok, I got the XR700 but to my disappointment, the car now wont start and Im not getting any spark. First, the car was running fine before I installed the unit. I marked where the rotor was pointing before pulling the distributor and installed it properly so the timing is not the problem. Im not getting any spark from the wires when tested. I tested the + and - of the coil while cranking the engine and am not getting any voltage on my tester. The LED on the Crane unit does not flash or stay on when cranking the motor. Shouldnt the + on the coil carry a voltage when the engine is cranked, regardless whether the points or the XR700 is working or not? Maybe someone here could share some info with me regarding this matter.
Thanks again in advance fellas!
Clint

Clint,
This isn't going to help you one bit, but if your Crane sparker was like the one I once bought for my Harley, then good luck.

Mine was DOA, out of the box.
Second unit from same dealer, died after an hour or so.
Third unit? Nahh...got my money back; momma didn't raise a fool!

They are a pretty simple unit. If you are sure everything is wired up correctly and that you have a GOOD EARTH, and still no led indicator, then you may indeed have a ****e box.

I made a couple of really stupid errors when I installed mine and had problems. The first was failing to attach the high tention lead to the new coil I also installed , and the other thing was forgetting to connect the "molex" connector (the white/grey/black wires). Did you make sure of your ballast resistance?

Good luck, I have the instructions still if you want me to check anything.

I'm sure Crane tech support has a FAQ check list for customer installations. It could be a wiring situation or the setup of the breakerless assy. in the distributor. However, with the ignition switch ON, you should have voltage available at the + terminal of the coil (red wire). If not, then you have a ignition circuit problem (not Crane) as this is part of the normal circuit. Let us know what you find out.

Oh, by the way, is there another way of testing the crane unit?
I tried testing it but hooking up the + and - wires of the crane to a live + and - on the batt and the led wouldnt light up.
