Here is a pic of the shifter on my 79 SC. I am not sure if you can tell what kind it is from here? The shifter knob does NOT come off no matter how hard I try.

Looks like the OEM Shifter for 915 Trans. Maybe Factory Short Shift Kit???
Place wrench under the knob and use a mallet and hit firmly, becareful of your face or even the headliner so you won't dimple the finish on the outside. Do you have a pic of the knob?

It's a short shift kit, but I did not know they had factory ones? Was it an option you could pay for back in '79?

I think it was a recent upgrade maybe in the past 10 years. I don't recall PAG had this available in 79. Be happy.
Now to your knob in question, do you have a pic?

Hey Draco, here is a side pic and top pic of the knob. I was going to take it off to put the center console back in, and also was thinking of getting a wevo to cure my 2nd gear shifting difficulties. (though I've come to realize if I'm patient on the shift it's fine), but guess I should just stick with this one. I can twist the knob about 1/4 turn with my large rubber strap wrench, thats it.

It's a compression sleeve under the knob, that squeezes the shaft. Most guys get an open end wrench with an opening the size of the shaft, place it under the knob, whack upward with a hammer. They can be tough

Hey guys what gives indication of factory short shift kit? I have 915 and it looks the same but the top plate with the lock out and flanges is broken in 1/2. The throw seems to be long already and I was hoping a factory kit would make the shift much shorter. I also have second gear issues with all new bushings. Seems to be sensitive to RPM and slop in shifter. Not hijackig your thread FGO just want to know what it is also.
