throttle stop bolt

hey
does anyone know what the height of the throttle stop bolt should be for a 3.0l sc 1981, not the idle adjustment screw.
i have reason to believe that it has been tampered with by the previous owner and is the cause of all my problems....

please anyone.
just go out to your car and please please measure it!

Thanks in advanced!
chris

The throttle bolt height is not important but the basic position of the throttle plate (butterfly) is.
I believe the Bentley SC Repair Manual shows the correct position and how to set it.

would you be able to let me know how to correctly position the throttle plate? is this the screw located in the airbox? that allows more air into the engine

+1 buy the Bentley at a minimum. It will save your but on many occasions in the future.

Adjusting the throttle travel is done at the bell housing. you need a helper or 2X4.

Press the foot pedal all the way down, make sure there are no obstructions, then go to the throttle body to see if it travels further, if so go to the bell housing and adjust accordingly for Optimal Throttle. If you think it is too tight then adjust accordingly.

On a 3.2 there needs to be 1-1.5MM play in the linkage. Probably for body and drive train flex.

Draco,

He is asking about the basic throttle plate position, NOT about throttle travel.

Chris,

Basic throttle position is set with the ouside stop screw but the big black rubber bellows on top has to come off so you can see what you're doing.

There is more to it, you'll need the Bentley page 240-4 to 7.
The plate has to be centered and adjusted for height, then the air flow sensor plate has to be checked and adjusted plus the throttle switch might need re-setting.

All this is important for the CIS to work correctly.

Outside stop bolt is for basic butterfly setting,
Large slotted outside screw is for idle adjust,
Small Allen set-screw inside mixture control unit is to set mixture with a 3mm Allen key.

You'll need the Bentley.
